WISMO: what it means and how to cut 'where is my order?' messages

WISMO stands for 'where is my order?'. In ecommerce it means every message a customer sends asking where their order is, when it will arrive or why it has not moved. For most online stores it is the single most common support question. You cut WISMO by setting clear delivery times, sending tracking proactively and making tracking easy to find, and you handle the rest by answering fast with the customer's real order status. Here is how.

What causes WISMO messages

  • No tracking link, or one buried in an email they cannot find.
  • Delivery times that were vague or too optimistic at checkout.
  • A long gap between the order and the first scan, so tracking says nothing for days.
  • Courier delays, sale periods and public holidays with no update from you.
  • Pre-orders and made-to-order items without a clear dispatch date.
  • Customers who buy from an ad and do not remember which store they ordered from.

How to reduce WISMO (step by step)

  1. Show honest delivery times on product pages and at checkout, by region: for example metro Australia, regional Australia and New Zealand.
  2. Send an order confirmation with the expected dispatch date, not just a receipt.
  3. Send a shipping email with the tracking link as soon as the label is made. In Shopify, check Settings, then Notifications, and make sure the shipping confirmation includes tracking.
  4. Add a 'Track my order' link to your menu and footer, pointing to a tracking page or your courier's tracking.
  5. Put delivery times and what to do if tracking has not moved in your FAQ and your Instagram and Messenger auto replies.
  6. Tell customers before they ask. If a courier or a sale causes delays, email affected orders and post a short note on your site and socials.
  7. Look at your WISMO messages each week. If one product, courier or region keeps coming up, fix that at the source.

How to answer WISMO messages well

Reply fast, with the real status

Look up the order and give the actual status and tracking link, not 'please allow 5 to 10 business days'. A specific answer ends the conversation.

Answer in the channel they used

If they asked by DM, reply by DM. If they asked in a public comment, reply publicly with a friendly note and move the details to a DM or email.

Never post order details in public

Order numbers, addresses and tracking links belong in private messages, never in a comment under a post or ad.

Own the delay

If it is late, say so, say sorry and say what you are doing about it. See our apology email examples for wording.

How Paperflower handles WISMO

WISMO questions arrive everywhere: email, Instagram and Facebook DMs, and comments under your ads. Paperflower puts them in one list, connects to Shopify, and drafts each reply with that customer's real order status and tracking link, so you check it and press Send. For public comments it writes a short friendly reply without any order details, copies it and opens the comment so you paste and post it yourself; the details go by DM or email.

Sending simple replies on its own is off by default and paid plans only, and complaints and refunds always come to a person. See how Shopify order details work.

How Paperflower is different

Comments are a sales channel, not a chore

Most tools treat comments as noise. Paperflower reads every one, spots buying questions like “do you ship to NZ?” and makes sure they get answered before the customer moves on.

Buying Intent and Opportunity Score

Every conversation gets a score so the people ready to buy come first. You see who to reply to now, and who can wait.

Shopify context in every draft

Order status, shipping and product details are pulled in automatically, so drafts are right the first time and private order details never go out in public.

You stay in control

AI drafts are on and auto-send is off by default. Complaints are escalated to you. Refunds and cancellations always need a human.

Simple pricing

Paperflower starts free with 100 customer interactions a month, no card needed: every message in one list, and you write the replies. AI sorting, reply drafts and spam hiding come with Standard, which is A$47 a month for 3,000 customer interactions, with a 7-day free trial. Human replies are always free. See all plans.

Built for AU and NZ brands

Frequently asked questions

WISMO stands for 'where is my order?'. In ecommerce it covers every customer message asking about the status or delivery of an order.

Show honest delivery times at checkout, send a shipping email with a tracking link as soon as the order ships, add a 'Track my order' link to your site, and warn customers about delays before they ask.

A WISMO call or ticket is a phone call, email or chat where the customer asks where their order is. Support teams count them to see how much time delivery questions take.

Partly. A tracking page and shipping emails answer many people before they ask. For the rest, tools that look up the order and draft the reply save the most time, with a person checking anything late, lost or damaged.

Not unless you turn that on. By default it drafts a reply and you approve it. You can switch on auto-send for simple, safe questions once you trust the drafts.

Instagram, Facebook and TikTok comments and DMs, support email through Gmail or Google Workspace, and Shopify for order details.

Yes. The Free plan is the basics: 100 customer interactions a month in one list, no card needed, and you write each reply. Standard adds AI sorting, reply drafts and spam hiding, and comes with a 7-day free trial. You can cancel any time. Compare plans.
