How to stop spam comments on Instagram

Spam comments like 'DM us to promote this' or fake giveaway links make your posts and ads look untrustworthy, and some of them scam your customers. Here is how to cut them down with Instagram's own tools, and how to hide the rest automatically.

Use Instagram's built-in filters

  1. Open Settings and privacy, then Hidden words.
  2. Turn on Hide comments to filter comments Instagram thinks are offensive or spam.
  3. Turn on Advanced comment filtering for a stricter filter.
  4. Add custom words and phrases spammers use, like 'promote', 'collab' or 'check my bio'.

Deal with repeat spammers

  • Restrict an account so its comments are only visible to them.
  • Block the account, and choose to block new accounts they create.
  • Limit comments from recent followers when you get a wave of spam.

What the built-in filters miss

  • Keyword filters only catch exact words, so spammers change the spelling.
  • Comments on ads are easy to miss because they do not always show in your normal notifications.
  • Scam replies pretending to be your brand ('DM this account to claim your prize') need to go fast.

Hide spam automatically

Paperflower reads every comment on your Instagram and Facebook posts and ads, spots spam and scam comments, and hides them if you switch automatic spam hiding on. Real questions go to the top of your list with a reply ready, so buyers get answered and spam disappears.

How Paperflower is different

Comments are a sales channel, not a chore

Most tools treat comments as noise. Paperflower reads every one, spots buying questions like “do you ship to NZ?” and makes sure they get answered before the customer moves on.

Buying Intent and Opportunity Score

Every conversation gets a score so the people ready to buy come first. You see who to reply to now, and who can wait.

Shopify context in every draft

Order status, shipping and product details are pulled in automatically, so drafts are right the first time and private order details never go out in public.

You stay in control

AI drafts are on and auto-send is off by default. Complaints are escalated to you. Refunds and cancellations always need a human.

Simple pricing

Paperflower starts free with 100 customer interactions a month, no card needed: every message in one list, and you write the replies.
