How to set up a TikTok business account for your shop

To switch to a TikTok business account, go to your profile, tap the menu (three lines) in the top right, then Settings and privacy, Account, and Switch to Business Account. Choose the category that best fits your shop and tap Next. It's free. The big change for a brand is music: a business account only sees the Commercial Music Library, a free library of about a million songs cleared for business use, because songs in TikTok's general library aren't cleared for brand content. You can also verify your business, which is available in Australia and New Zealand and unlocks extra tools. Below are the steps, what changes, the music rules, and what to set up first.

How to switch to a TikTok business account

  1. Open TikTok and tap Profile in the bottom right.
  2. Tap the menu (three lines) in the top right, then Settings and privacy.
  3. Tap Account (in some versions, Manage account).
  4. Tap Switch to Business Account.
  5. Choose the category that best describes your shop, for example clothing or beauty, and tap Next.

Business or personal: which a shop needs

Business account

For brands and shops. Business tools and analytics, and music from the Commercial Music Library, which is cleared for business use.

Personal account

For people. Sees all sounds, but songs in the general music library aren't cleared for content posted by a brand.

Two accounts

If you also post personal content, TikTok recommends keeping a separate personal account rather than switching back and forth.

The music rules for business accounts

  • On a business account, tapping Add Sound shows only Commercial Sounds from the Commercial Music Library.
  • The library has about a million songs across genres and regions, from independent and emerging artists through to major music houses, and it's free for businesses.
  • Songs in TikTok's general music library aren't pre-cleared for commercial content, which TikTok defines as any content posted by a brand, so a shop shouldn't use them, even from a personal account.
  • You can filter Commercial Sounds by region, theme, genre, mood and duration, and use them in organic posts and ads.
  • Original audio you record yourself, like a voiceover, doesn't depend on either music library.

Business verification in Australia and New Zealand

Verifying your business is optional, and TikTok lists Australia and New Zealand among the markets where it's available. A verified business account gets extra tools, such as conversion analytics, messaging features like auto lead collection and an AI chatbot, links to your website from videos or your profile, a public business profile and audience geo-targeting. TikTok notes features vary by market and can change, and that breaking the Community Guidelines can cost you verification. Some features also unlock once an account reaches 1,000 followers.

Switching back to a personal account

  • Follow the same steps and choose Switch to Personal Account.
  • You lose business features, and business verification isn't kept if you switch.
  • TikTok advises against switching account types back and forth, so decide once.

What a shop should set up first

  1. Add your contact details and, once your account can show one, a link to your store, so customers can reach you without commenting.
  2. Write a bio that says what you sell and where you ship, for example 'Ships Australia-wide and to NZ'.
  3. Set up comment filters and decide how you'll handle comments. See how to reply to, pin and filter TikTok comments.
  4. Pin a comment with your shipping times or sizing on your best-performing videos.
  5. Decide who checks TikTok comments and DMs every day, alongside Instagram, Facebook and email. See social media customer service.

Answering TikTok with everything else

TikTok comments are full of buying questions ('is this in stock?', 'do you ship to NZ?'), but they sit in a separate app from your Instagram, Facebook and email. Paperflower puts TikTok, Instagram and Facebook comments and DMs in one list with your support email and Shopify orders, and on Standard puts buying questions first with a reply drafted. Public comment replies are never posted by Paperflower: you copy the reply and post it yourself. See how it works.

How Paperflower is different

Comments are a sales channel, not a chore

Most tools treat comments as noise. Paperflower reads every one, spots buying questions like “do you ship to NZ?” and makes sure they get answered before the customer moves on.

Buying Intent and Opportunity Score

Every conversation gets a score so the people ready to buy come first. You see who to reply to now, and who can wait.

Shopify context in every draft

Order status, shipping and product details are pulled in automatically, so drafts are right the first time and private order details never go out in public.

You stay in control

AI drafts are on and auto-send is off by default. Complaints are escalated to you. Refunds and cancellations always need a human.

Simple pricing

Paperflower starts free with 100 customer interactions a month, no card needed: every message in one list, and you write the replies. AI sorting, reply drafts and spam hiding come with Standard, which is A$47 a month for 3,000 customer interactions, with a 7-day free trial. Human replies are always free. See all plans.

Built for AU and NZ brands

Local time zones, local shipping questions, and support from people who know the market.
