'Doesn't have an established presence on Instagram'
Meta wants an authentic, established account, which can include enough followers. Keep posting and try again later, or connect a different account.
To set up an Instagram and Facebook shop from Shopify, add the free Facebook & Instagram sales channel (by Meta) from the Shopify App Store, click Start set up, connect your Facebook account, Page, business portfolio and Instagram professional account, accept the terms and click Finish setup. Shopify then syncs your products to one Meta catalogue that powers your Facebook shop, Instagram shopping and your catalogue ads. Customers still pay on your own Shopify store: they tap Checkout on seller's website. Shops are only offered in supported countries; Australia was kept when Meta cut shops back across Asia Pacific in 2023, New Zealand wasn't. Below are the requirements, the steps, what Commerce Manager is for, how to tag products, and fixes for the errors people hit most.
Updated 31 October 2026
Commerce Manager is Meta's tool for your shop and product catalogue. With Shopify, the Facebook & Instagram channel creates the commerce account and keeps the catalogue in sync, so you add and edit products in Shopify, not Commerce Manager. You'll still use Commerce Manager to check your catalogue is eligible for product tags and to set up promotions on tagged products.
Meta's naming rule trips people up: your commerce account name should match your business's public name, can't contain special characters, and can't include the words facebook, ig or meta.
Once your shop and catalogue are approved, you can tag products in new and existing posts. Products you tag are added to your shop automatically.
Customers browse your products on Facebook or Instagram, add them to a cart in the app and tap Checkout on seller's website, which takes them to your Shopify store to pay. Customers who tap an ad go straight to the product page on your store. Shopify says that since 26 August 2025 Meta no longer handles checkout for these orders, so tax on those orders is handled through your Shopify tax settings, like any other order.
Meta wants an authentic, established account, which can include enough followers. Keep posting and try again later, or connect a different account.
Your Facebook account needs full control of the Page and business portfolio. Ask whoever has full control to give it to you.
The business portfolio you pick must own the Page. Connect the portfolio that owns it instead.
The Page or Instagram account is linked to a different Shopify store. Disconnect it there first, then try again.
Rename your commerce account to your business's public name, without special characters or the words facebook, ig or meta.
Remove the channel in Shopify, remove Shopify under Business Integrations in your Facebook settings, then reinstall in a private browser window signed in to one Facebook account.
Shopify points out that Meta keeps a feedback score for your business portfolio, based partly on feedback from customers who buy through Meta. Poor scores on things like delivery speed, product quality or customer service can mean Meta shows your ads less often. Tagged posts and shop ads also bring questions in the comments and DMs: 'is this in stock in a 10?', 'how long to Perth?', 'do you ship to NZ?'. Each one is a sale if it's answered quickly.
Paperflower puts your Instagram and Facebook comments and DMs in one list with your support email, TikTok and your Shopify orders. On Standard, it puts buying questions first and drafts each reply with the customer's order and your product and shipping details. Public comment replies are never posted by Paperflower: you press Send, the reply is copied, and the comment opens so you post it yourself. See how it works with Shopify.
Most tools treat comments as noise. Paperflower reads every one, spots buying questions like “do you ship to NZ?” and makes sure they get answered before the customer moves on.
Every conversation gets a score so the people ready to buy come first. You see who to reply to now, and who can wait.
Order status, shipping and product details are pulled in automatically, so drafts are right the first time and private order details never go out in public.
AI drafts are on and auto-send is off by default. Complaints are escalated to you. Refunds and cancellations always need a human.
Paperflower starts free with 100 customer interactions a month, no card needed: every message in one list, and you write the replies. AI sorting, reply drafts and spam hiding come with Standard, which is A$47 a month for 3,000 customer interactions, with a 7-day free trial. Human replies are always free. See all plans.
Local time zones, local shipping questions, and support from people who know the market.
Yes. The Facebook & Instagram sales channel is free on all Shopify plans, and customers pay on your own Shopify store, so your normal Shopify payment fees apply. You only pay Meta if you run ads.
Australia was one of seven Asia Pacific markets where Meta kept shops when it cut them back in 2023. Shops are only offered in Meta's supported countries and Meta can change that list, so check what the setup in Shopify offers your business.
New Zealand wasn't one of the markets Meta kept shops in when it cut them back across Asia Pacific in 2023. Meta said Instagram ads with product tags would keep working. If Shopify's setup says shops aren't offered in your region, that's why.
Meta's tool for your shop and product catalogue. With Shopify, the Facebook & Instagram channel sets up the commerce account and syncs your catalogue, so you manage products in Shopify and use Commerce Manager mainly to check eligibility and set up promotions.
Your shop or catalogue may still be in review or not approved, your business may not be in a supported country, or the Instagram account may not be linked to the Facebook Page owned by the business portfolio connected to Shopify. You need an eligible catalogue in Commerce Manager before you can tag products.
Not unless you turn that on. By default it drafts a reply and you approve it. You can switch on auto-send for simple, safe questions once you trust the drafts.
Instagram, Facebook and TikTok comments and DMs, support email through Gmail or Google Workspace, and Shopify for order details.
